Mechanical engineering plays a key role in Vietnam’s industrialization and modernization process. Under the development strategy for the Vietnam mechanical engineering industry approved by the Vietnam Prime Minister in 2002, the sector has since gained encouraging achievements towards international integration.

The Vietnam government continues to pay special attention to developing the mechanical engineering sector, particularly the mechanical manufacturing industry which has seen exports rising as the standard of their mechanical products have improved. Vietnamese mechanical engineering companies have also made progress in synchronizing equipment to supply key industries including electricity generation, cement, sugarcane and sugar, paper and paper pulp, and fertilizer instead of only just manufacturing mechanical items.

The future challenge for the whole of Vietnam’s mechanical engineering sector is to quickly become more competitive in the domestic market and therefore replace imported products, and also improve themselves towards exports.
